Question:

I want to write but...

Sometimes I get these ideas for a story, but when I try to write it out on paper, it frustrates me because it doesn't come out anywhere close to how I imagine it in my head. I feel like I'm not doing the story any justice.

But I've recently come up with this idea that I feel like I NEED to write out. The story gets me excited when I think about the plot and the characters and the possibilities. I know, though, that I'm going to reach the point I have before where I am frustrated with myself and the story.

Are there any of you out there that have had or are having similar problems? Any suggestions?

  1. yah im a retired essay writer and poet. The last piece i had written was 10 years back. that long. I stopped when the inspiration went away. its hard to be poetic and romantic when ur studying science, medicine. im more of a pragmatist now. and it feels awkward to start writing poems again. but i do remember what i used to do when writer's block hit me before. i would immerse myself in literature by dead writers, great and eccentric. in the end, i feel intellectual and ready to make my own masterpiece.

  2. You can fix bad writing. You can't fix a blank page.

And you'll never get any better if you don't just start writing. Even if it's awful.

The first story I wrote ... sucked. There's no nicer way to say it. It was frustrating and difficult, but I kept working at it. Eventually, I put it away and started on something else. My second story? Got published. All the time I spent on that sucky novel taught me a lot about how NOT to suck. My 6th novella will be released next spring.

But you'll never get there if you don't go through the hard part first.

s***w up your courage, man! Write!
