I want toask difference in railroad journey the Pullman cars made over the cars of the 1840s?

DURING THE DAY THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH RICHLY UPHOLSTERED SEATS THAT WERE TO BECOME THE HALLMARK OF THE PULLMAN CAR.AT NIGHT,THE SEAT BACKS COULD BE LET DOWN TO BECOME BEDS.

In 1840 Mr Pullman was 9 years old.  The first Pullman car ran in 1859, but the first custom-built car ran in 1864 or 65.

    

I can tell you a sleeping compartment is better at night than a sitting car on a long journey.  What went in 1960 would also have been true in 1860.  A lot better than sitting up.
