  1. Most airline pilots are not trained in the military.

Get (private, commercial, instrument) training at local airports.  Get your multiengine rating at a specialty school.  You can get your ATP there, too, or get it during airline training.

  2. Go to a small airport near where you live. Find a flight school. You can get *some* financial aid for a portion of the ground school, but most of the money you'll spend to learn to fly will be spent in the air, on the aircraft rental and instructor time.

You'll need to get these ratings: Private Pilot, Instrument Rating, Commercial Rating, ATP Rating. Each rating will run at least $5,000. Then, you'll have to build up flight time as a pilot in order to even drop your resume off at any kind of airline, even "puddle jumpers".

Plenty of airline pilots learn as civilians.

  3. some 90 day fast track in dallas

  4. Most airline pilots have a military background.

The airforce seems like the obvious choice, but if you can't get into pilot school try the other branches.

A four year commitment is the same amount of time as college would take, plus you don't have $100k in debt when you get out. If you do decide to go this route, make sure you get a guarantee, in writing, that you can attend pilot training before joining up.
