What do you think treating your dog more like a child rather than a dog? Also, dressing dogs in clothes, and making your dog homemade food, like proper meals?

I have a dog, and all of a sudden, I really wanna treat him like a child more than a dog, but i don't know if it is a good thing to do.

And if it is, how?

  1. I don't mind dressing my dog up in clothes, however the clothes must me comfortable and not be ridiculous, like a snowsuit or something! I wouldn't prepare food that me and my family would eat. The dog could get sick on it!!! Hope this is the answer you're looking for!! :)

  2. he is a,dog treat him like a dog he will love u more{ mine love cuddles though}

  3. The dog will become territorial agressive and spoiled. This sounds rude but true in 99.9% of the time if you treat him like i think your saying. Sure you can dress him in dog clothes... but only do it if the clothing serves a purpose. For example if it is cold out and your dog is small with thin hair then you can get him a properly fitted coat. But clothing can rub against skin, cause irritation, and cut off blood flow. Plus it will probably bug the c**p out of him. Even if he or she doesnt show dislike toward clothes no dog wants to wear clothing. meals are only ok if they are special meals that are designed for dogs. Even then once a week at the most should probably be the limit for food that isnt dog food. HUMAN FOOD IS NOT GOOD FOR DOGS. For example, chocolate contains a chemical called theobromine that is literally a poison to dogs! so dont give the puppy that itd be like feeding a baby rat poison! Plus proper dog sufficient homemade meals are expensive too. And dog food is specially made to give your dog nutrients and calcium and protion. I know you love your dog but you dont want to hurt him do you? He is not a child! give proper, and apropriate attention, and make sure he doesnt think he's the boss. If you do all the things you want to do the dog will think he's the alpha and treat you like a person there to serve him.

  4. Dog's are not fashion accessories. I think a lot of people go way overboard with dressing and accessorizing their dogs. Dog's don't really like it anyway. I don't see a problem with putting a little t-shirt or sweater on a small breed dog, but that's only because when it gets cold outside, it's harder for them to retain their body heat. I have Short Hair Chihuahuas, and I do put sweaters on them when it gets cold outside, and sometimes when they are in an Air Conditioned room, because they have very little body fat and they get cold very easily. Most of the time, mine are ok without any kind of clothing on! I have never dressed them up in dresses or other outfits on them or  put polish their nails or anything fancy, because I don't think it's necessary! Mine don't eat human food! They eat their Canidae All Life Stages and they are fine!

  5. i treat my dogs like there my babys but to a degree!! i will never dress them up. to me thats just pathetic. after all they aint humans. i let them sleep inside but thats so if someone is tryin to break in, the dogs will bark and ican go hit the wanna-be burgaler over the head. and yeah the only human food they get is my left overs!!!!!!

  6. Do what you want to do.

  7. it is not a good thing at all because:

While it may seem like a small problem, it really isn’t. Treating pets as children or little humans can and will create problems in your household. The pampered pet may continuously compete for your attention with your spouse. While you sleep soundly in your bed with your dog, your partner must spend nights on the hard couch, watching TV to pass the time.

This will eventually create more and more problems in your relationship. Your spouse will begin to get angry because you are essentially treating your pet better than them. Relationships have ended over too pampered pets, and even the court systems are starting in on the trend. Now, pets are beginning to be treated as children, and battles are fought over who will get the pet once a divorce occurs. This only adds to the idea the pet has in its mind that they rule the household.

Cesar Milan, better known as The Dog Whisperer works with pet owners to stop treating them like children and more like the pets they are supposed to be. Many owners are afraid that telling their pet no, or disciplining them when they do something wrong is bad. They are afraid of hurting their feelings, and eventually give into whatever they want and desire to do, because of this. Their dogs become unruly and take over the entire house.

  8. Dog is an animal. Child is a child. Dog doesn't care about what you do or smell. In the wild, dog don't dress up. Dog only cares about is somebody to looked up to, feeds them and cares for them. They like to be with their pack leader. So forget about dressing them up. Just don't give them too much food or else they'll all sorts of problems.

  9. I treat my 2 like children since the day they came to live with me from how they eat all breakfast, lunch and tea (all human grade quality ) all hand feed (they can eat noodles off a fork ), sleep in a queen size bed they sleeping insummer with sheets and winter electric blanket , discipline sit in naughty corner or locked in a room for  5 minutes solo, exercise etc ... it is better for the dog and my partner and myself as far as consistancy goes, going to toliet in the bathroom eg wee in the shower cubical and poo in there if we are at work if at home we wipe both out girls bottoms, and knitted slippers for their feet as they get cold, sheepskin rest area in the tv room

  10. I treat my dogs like my children, but also treat them like dogs. They need to be treated like dogs in some respects. My mom has a weiner dog and treats him like a child to the extent that when he uses the restroom in the house she refuses to potty train him better. She also says he "talks" (aka barks at the television all F'in day) and won't reprimand him for it so all day long he yaps and yaps and it's so annoying. Basically, from treating him too much like a child, she has made him an ill-mannered dog!

On the other hand, all my dogs are well potty trained, trained not to jump on people, etc. Good DOG manners! But then my little chihuahua and my huge pit/grayhound/boxer mix love to wear clothes! I also bake my own dog treats! I would make them their meals if I had the time, and think about it all the time.

I would recommend getting a cookbook especially for dogs so you are meeting all of your pups nutritional needs. I saw a few at petco the otherday actually!

But, in my opinion I say go for it! Spoil your little one, but make sure he has good dog manners also! It will make him, and you, happier!!!

  11. i think you should not do that way. it just a dog.

  12. Some people say we treat our dogs (Hound and Bulldog) like children but actually we don't.  They live in the house, sleep with us, etc. However we only dress them in the winter when we put their coats on. We give them the very best Vet care and try to keep their people food at a very minimum.  Our Vet says people food is bad for them. A good quality dog food is much better for them.  Have fun with your dog!!

  13. every thing is fine to do but not the food dog food much better for them and there not meant to have human food it not good for them at all

  14. A dog will be happier being a dog.

I have no problem with occasionally dressing dogs, such as for holiday pictures and if the dog needs a coat in the winter, but doing it every day isn't letting the dog be a dog. Dogs like to run around and play, wearing clothing limits that.

Cooking for your dog is fine. It's not treating it like a child, it's just a different method of feeding. Some people feed kibble, some people feed raw, some people cook. Make sure you research the proper nutrition your dog needs, and you may have to add certain supplements to achieve this.

    .

  15. i wouldnt do the clothes thing or the food thing.dogs get sick from people food and fat which is a strain on their hearts, hips legs and other organs. i can see a coat when its cold out but all these clothes people put their pets in are just ridiculous. love your pet and give him love,a good home, vet visits when needed and you will be protecting him and loving him as you would a child.
