GO TO WAL MART  buy tuff stuff  multi-purpose foam cleaner

or any all purpose cleaner for furnture they make all kinds and some even smell good  after you do this you can put your mattress out side in the sun to air out

while your in walmart all so look at mattress covers for your bed  i have one on each bed be cause i have little grand babies i all so had to do this

well with my expirience we have used the hand tool on the carpet steam cleaner but also invested in a little green carpet cleaner which has worked well. in our house we have put plastic matress covers and matress pad on all the beds because we have two old cats.  hope this helps
