I wanted to give my Mexican neighbors some veggies out of the garden. Do people from Mexico eat eggplant?

Thanks so much, all of this was helpful especially how to say it in spanish. I lived in Mexico for awhile and never saw it prepared there. Some of it is Japanese eggplant which is really strange looking if you have never seen it before.

i eat eggplant and am mexican, we don't just eat mexican food all the time hahaha, i like to prepare berenjena with honey and sesame seeds. you seem verynice

Berenjena is sold in Mexican supermarkets but people do not usally buy it because it is not part of the usual Mexican fare. However, some people do know how to prepare it and they can prepare eggplant lasagna, or sliced eggplant in italian tomato sauce and the like. For those of us who like to cook, berenjena is a nice addition, although it tends to be on the expensive side.

Give them one with a recipe, they will appreciate the gesture.

That is a very nice gesture.  I am sure they will appreciate your giving them something that you grew yourself, and if they are not familiar with it, they surely will just ask you how to prepare it.

I dont think its typical.

But I think it would be nice if you gave them some and printed off an eggplant parmesan recipe or something off the internet, so they know how to cook them.

its not a common dish in Mexico, however, there are a few ways to prepare it.  It's called berengena in Spanish.

I don't know of any traditional Mexican foods that use eggplant, but that doesn't mean people won't eat it. Not everyone eats only food that is traditional to their ethnic backgrounds, do they?

In any case, I'm sure they're going to appreciate the gesture.
