I wanted to learn how to do immigration paper work in California. What are some resources I should check out?

Are you talking about doing your own immigration application, or for someone else?  Only an attorney can do immigration paperwork for other people.  You need a university degree, a law degree, take the bar exam, get your license and be sworn in to the bar, then specialize in immigration law, if that is what you want to do.
