i have gained weight, and the first two years of college i spend it seating down or eating junk food, wich i gained weight, i was at 115- and by the end of the middle of the 2nd yr of college i was 155, i believe i also lost my elasticity, because i used to be able to do a lot of push ups with out getting stretch marks, now i do 5 and the following day i get them, my question is how many miles a day should i start to run to get back into that type of shape, right now i am at 130lbs, and back then i used to run a mile in 4 50 pr, every day i think i used to run 8 to max out 12 miles.

  1. Start out at a distance that challenges you but doesn't overwork you too much. Then just work your way back up to 8 to 12 miles a day.

  2. After two years, you're pretty much starting over. What you ran in the past, really shouldn't have any affect on what you're running now, physically. Mentally though, you can use what you know about yourself as a runner when building back up. You already should have the mental toughness. However, starting off at 5 miles runs is unrealistic in my opinion.

Look up the Couch to 5k running program. It's on a site called cool runnings. There is a program that gets you from running nothing to 3 miles again. Start at whatever step you feel is appropriate. Don't overdo it and don't compare yourself to the kind of runner you were 2 years ago. One day you might get back there, but that time is not now.

If a 5k is still too easy for you look up a 10k program. There should be one on that site as well.

What you should be running is based on how you physically feel. Please keep in mind that if you get overly tired, injured or sick, this might mean you are being too hard on yourself.

  3. 5 miles a day should get you back. Also, eat healthier, I know its hard in college. You don't have to just run you can play basketball, frisbee, bike, lift. If all your looking for is to get back in shape and not join the track team, any exercise is better then no exercise.

  4. Getting back into shape is hard if your obstacle is yourself. You should discipline yourself. You should put words into actions. Example of which is eating the right food and regular exercise just like what you are doing (running). You should also stop eating junk foods.
