Question:

I was adopted. What's the best way to get info from a "closed adoption" state?

I know that my birthstate has closed adoptions. I was born in Florida. I know a LOT of basic info about it, but always reach a dead end when getting past the basics...

For those of you who may be wondering, I've signed up wth the state registry and so many online registries that I've lost count.

  1. http://www.findmybiologicalparents.com

  2. It's hard to get info unless you have a compelling reason that a judge would open them for you, like a serious health issue.

Sometimes the agencies offer reunion matching services and/or have information on file, you could call the agency that handled your adoption.

  3. FL is not closed...they are actually REALLY good. However, if you absolutely CANNOT get your info, private message me and I will give you the name of a company that found my hubby's adoption info. He'd been looking for more than 20 years........to no avail.....this company was not super cheap, but they found EVERYTHING. He found his b-mom and dad and ALL the info he'd EVER want.

  4. PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP. I TOO WAS AT A DEAD END. I WAS TOLD THING TOO.EVERYBODY TOLD ME,MY RECORDS WERE GOT READED OF.I KNOW BASIC THINGS. BUT JUST PLEASE KEEP TRING. IF IT IS FOR YOU TO FIND HER YOU WILL..I DON'T KNOW ALOT ABOUT FINDING MY PARNETS.BUT I'M GLAD THEIR ARE PEOPLE THAT CAN DO THIS. I'M HAPPY AT THE POINT THAT I'M AT. I AM AFRAID THAT YOU WILL BE UP SET IF SHE IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT HER TO BE. SO PLEASE DON'T GET UPSET IF SHE IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK SHE SHOULD BE.GOOD LUCK....

  5. Get your original last name from your adoption papers.  Then get the information from the hospital.  I found my birth parents and now do it for others as a hobby sometimes.  Let me know if you'd like some help!

  6. Sounds like you have posted your information with a lot of agencies or websites, which is a good start.  You indicated that it was a closed "private" adoption.  Do your parents have any of the information from the initial adoption?   Did they use an attorney?  Perhaps you can contact the attorney's office or the courthouse that recorded the adoption for additional info.

Another suggestion would be if you know what area of Florida you were born in, perhaps contacting the local hospitals or researching the local newspapers for birth announcements.

    Good luck to you.

  7. Contact registries usually don't work.

There used to be a book about how to find anyone that recommended, odd as it seems, looking for driver's license/DMV  records.  Try googling for "Shea's search series." Also google the term "search angel," which should lead you to folks who not only want to help but know exactly how it's done.

Good luck.  I know how it is.

  8. I know my parents hired a private investigator and an attorney to try and find info. about my sisters biological family.  They said it's not cheap, but they've been progressively getting closer to finding out.

  9. Wow adopted....

    Scary

  10. I was adopted too. I was born and put up for adoption in CA.  I got some paperwork from the agency where I was placed and went from there. I got lucky and some information was not blocked out.  But ultimately I hired someone my sister found on the internet because "they have their ways" and I found my entire birth family.  The courts system will never help you. GOOD LUCK
