  1. The first thing I would do is go to the hospital where you were born they usually keep birth records of adoptions there and you can also trace your social security number to where it was filed from what hospital and such and start from there if you need any more help go to adoption.com and they can give you more help there..

  2. The laws and information availability are different for every state.  Please add onto your question, giving the state in which you were adopted, so that you can get better answers.

You can also get some information by going here

    http://adopteerights.net/nulliusfilius/?...

and clicking on the state in which you were adopted for more information.

Make sure to sign up with the International Soundex Reunion Registry at

http://isrr.net.  It is the largest largest reunion registry around.

If you were adopted in Alabama, Oregon, New Hampshire, Maine (starting Jan. 2009,) Alaska or Kansas, you can write to your state's vital statistics department and receive a copy of your original birth certificate (the one with your first mother's name on it.)  Some other states will give adopted adults their original birth certificates depending on other factors, such as what year you were adopted.  Check the link I listed above for information about original birth certificate access in the state where you were adopted.
