  1. I assume the bride is paying a flat rate for all kids. I would say $50 per hour in total.

  2. i say maybe $25 per kid

  3. Start with your expenses for the event.  How much will it cost for travel expenses and supplies?    Don't forget gas.  It can definitely impact your profit.

How many hours have you agreed to work?   Now, how long will it take you to pack up supplies and travel to the wedding?   What is the minimum amount that each teacher who is working the event would be willing to do it for?   What amount does each teacher feel would be a really generous amount?    Divide the dollar amount per person by the hours onsite, and again by the hours including travel, and get a real sense of how much you would be making per hour.   The customer will consider he is paying you for the actual time at the wedding, but you actually worked more hours when you consider your travel, so you need to consider both aspects.

Consider the fact that you are professionals, trained in CPR and First Aid, so you should be making a reasonable income, not minimum wage.

After you think through all of this, you will be much closer to having a good sense of what is a low price, a fair price, and a very profitable price to charge.

Write it all down, and keep it ready for your negotiation, but never show this information to your customer.

At this point, you will be ready to negotiate.  Ask for the highest amount that you expect your customer may be willing to pay, or a bit more, and start your negotiation with the knowledge of what is the lowest price you are willing to accept.   Come down a little on your price so that your customer feels that they got a deal, but try not to get down to the bottom number that was the lowest that you or the other teacher was willing to accept.

Bring your calculator, paper and pen, and be prepared with answers.  Know how to respond if the customer suggests that you shorten your time onsite to reduce the total amount, or asks you to bring one less extra teacher, etc.    It might be best to have some of these answers worked out in advance.

You may feel that the price you have calculated out is a bit high, but think it through.  Consider the fact that this is a "house call", and you are trained professionals,  not general labor.   It is not unusual for service professionals to be hesitant to ask for what they are really worth, but it is what you will have to do in order to be successful in this business.

    Best of luck!!
