She started talking to me and sat next to me. The parents did not know. It felt illegal, but if I neglected her it would have felt immoral. How should I have reacted? What would you have done?

  1. Two year olds don't know any better.  Talk to her like it's perfectly normal.  Unless you're touching, the parents usually don't care.

  2. I would ask her where her parents were and take her back to them, and explain what happened. If she doesn't know where they are try to contact a lifegaurd or the police..

  3. Most beaches allow kids to be naked up 'til age five so there is not problem with that.

Whenever you see a stray child like this, the best thing to do is ask where the child's parents are then walk the child to the parents.  If the child is lost, ask a lifeguard.

Yes this is awkward but in most cases, it doesn't look bad if you are in a group of people with the child trying to find the parents.

I had this happen to me on vacation and this little girl was eight and lost and crying wondering where her mommy was.  I took her by the hand, flagged down a cop driving by, told him the child was lost and in the middle of that, mommy came by in a panic.  It all worked out fine.

  4. It really depends on the parent - I have a 2 year old daughter myself. It's not that they don't know any better, it's that they're little nudists. It's their nature. They're also (generally speaking) really outgoing. They want to be everybody's friend. This fits my little girl to a T. Now, hypothetically speaking, if this were my daughter, I wouldn't mind you talking to her. This is assuming the conversation is kept clean & your hands are kept to yourself. Otherwise, I don't see the harm.
