I was at the mall yesterday with my best friend and we were waiting in line to order food.?

When I saw a girl about 13 to 14 year old wearing shorts that pretty much showed the start of her butt. Now, my friend just had his first child a girl about 2 months ago and I told him never ever let your daughter wear anything like that outside the house. Now, what I am asking is why would any parent let their child wear anything like that in a mall? I can understand if it was at a beach or a lake somewhere where water is involved if they are wearing a bikini or whatever personally I do not care what people wear at the beach or a lake, etc......But in the mall you're just asking for something to happen to your daughter. So, I'm sure I'm going to get some responses say you're sick you were looking at a teenager bla bla bla stuff like that, but do you really believe that the girl didn't know any better?

Young lady's who dress like this do it for one reason...attention!  She most likely does not have a postive or high self image and her parents are not there or are not being good parents and saying to her "you are not leaving the house in that".  Most likely she comes from a household where there is not a father figure, or the father figure is absent most of the time.  Fathers play a major part in not letting their daughter leave the house in an outfit like that :- ) and in turn the young girls are not looking for the "male attention" they are not receiving at home.  Someone needs to teach the girl about self esteem and give her a better self image of herself, so she learns that dressing like that only gets her negative or the "wrong" kind of attention.

Well, I think men should learn that they can't have everything they like to look at. Short pants on a girl shouldn't be a problem in the company of civilized men.

I understand what you are saying. Teenage girls want to act or perform like older women. Its really no fault of thier own that they are normal teenagers. When girls are younger they like to play dress up and as teens nothing really changes except for thier bodys. Keep in mind that just because a girl wants to pretend that they are older doesn't mean that they are ready for the responsabilitys of being older. Thats when parents need to step in and make boundrys for thier teenage girls. My mother used to say, don't advertise that your selling beer when your really selling lemonade. Most teen girls don't know that men can't see past the advertisement and may act accordenly.

I am pretty sure the girl knew how short her shorts were and I am pretty sure she wore them that way on purpose.

IMHO, as long as they aren't showing their butts why does it matter the length of the shorts?

As long as all that needs to be covered is covered, whats the prob?

Also, if you go into stores that teen girls shop, you'll see shorts are all short. They don't make mid-thigh shorts anymore, they didn't when I was in middle school 6 years ago.

I've never had anything happen to me in the mall, ever.

You'd be surprised how many parents are not involved in their child's choice of clothing by the time they enter their teen years.  Also, there are many young girls who will wear one thing at home and then change once their parents are out of sight.  

I agree though that by wearing such short shorts, the girls are just asking for boys to look at them like a piece of meat and perhaps even putting themselves in danger of being violated.  

I have always taught my daughters that leaving something to the imagination is what men find attractive so they think of those types of outfits as "S****y".

The thing is, you are assuming that her parents even knew how she was dressed! My girls used to go out wearing reasonable clothing and I would run into them later in the day to see the skirts hiked up and the shirt collars much lower. Its not that surprising is it? Girls do these things. Cant always blame the parents at that age, they are teens and are good at doing things behind their parents backs, I know I was. But once I saw my daughters I made them go to the bathroom and fix themselves.

I agree I see it all the time and I wonder why their parents would even buy clothes like that. but I agree with the first answer they could have changed after getting together with friends. but I also agree that if mom is dressing like a **** then the chances of her daughter dressing like one is very high. my parents knew what I wore to school and out with friends because they bought my clothes and would say no to things if it was to revealing and I will do the same with my daughter

If she doesn't have a good example at home or someone who is truly interested in her well being, then yes. She may not know any better. Or it is possible that she does have someone at home trying to teach her and she is being a typical 13 year old and trying to be "s**y." In her mind. Its also possible her parents didn't let her wear that. i used to change at the mall all the time. Its just being a kid- doesn't make it right but that's hwo things are sometimes.
