I was awaken last night by a Verberating magnetic sound?

Question

It was a steady sound coming & going and then faint, then loud, it was a stormy night so I thought maybe a transformer had been hit by lightening but all is fine this morning and it stopped all at once. I looked outside and saw nothing...anyone have a clue???

On occassion during electrical storms the power lines will hum and vibrate.... It happens mainly in older neighborhoods that have older lines.
