I was born in Japan but moved to the U.S. does that make me Issei ?

  1. If your parents are Japanese and you have or had Japanese nationality, then yes, you are technically Issei (first generation).

    But Issei is a kind of historical term used for those immigrated before WW2.  These days with people moving much more freely between countries, the term is no longer used.


  2. Yes. An issei is a first generation Japanese..Next comes nisei, and then sansei.

  3. In case you have Japanese nationality, and then you legally emigrate to U.S.A.

    I think you are  issei.
