I'm attending College later this year. When I turn 18 I'll be going to University, but I wanted to go to one in America and live on campus full-time. How would I go about doing this?

  1. Contact the "Admissions Office" at the school(s) you want to attend. Tell them you are coming from overseas, and they will help you with everything. If they can't help you, they will direct you to the right people who can, but usually the admissions office people are the ones to talk to.

Good luck with everything, and I hope it all works out for you!

  2. 1st- you have to contact the college you want to attend in the US (they will tell you what you need conserning your grades)

2nd- if you are accepted, you have to apply for a studen visa at the american ambassy in the UK

for that you need to show proof how or who will support you financially while you study

***Note you will not be abel to work with a student visa

and if you should not keep your grades each year your visa will automatically cancel

they will know about your grades because it is a requirements for the school to send info to immigration (at least it was)

    Good luck

  3. Hey check ou the resources section on goswoop.com its pretty comprehensive and provides information on admissions for studying in the states. here is the link http://www.goswoop.com/resources.php?lev...

    hope this helps

  4. The A levels you do at college will be accepted by US universities, and may even allow you to waive out of certain classes once you get there, if you do well enough on the exams. So going to college will put you in good stead.

Almost every US university requires international students to take the SAT or the ACT exams. Go to the website: www.collegeboard.com to learn more about this. You can take these exams in the UK, and there are test prep books available, and sample tests, so you can get familiar with the format. You'd want to take those maybe in your second year of college. Earlier is fine, too.

At this point, you need to begin researching universities in the US. Just to get you started, I'll link you to one rankings list, below.

The majority of universities in the US provide residence halls, especially for first year students, so you're good on that count. It's something you'll need to sign up for, once you are admitted.

If, during the course of the application process, you get confused, post here and we'll translate from US requirements to what that means to you as someone from the UK. You can also always contact admissions at the uni you're interested in. They have plenty of experience with foreign students, so they'll be able to set you right.

BTW, as an aside, international students in the US can work on campus, but not off campus, and can only work for a certain number of hours per week. So you could get a job in the uni's snack shop - but ask about this to confirm. In addition, international students in the US to study are allowed to do course-related internships here.

  5. I would start researching which university you are interested in and begin applying. Once you're accepted, the university admissions office will be able to advise and assist. You may want to start by talking to your college counselors and staff and see if they have any advice for you too! Best Wishes!

  6. You will need to obtain a student visa and if you want to work anywhere other than on campus you need to also get a work visa....Contact the university you plan on attending and they can help you.  Most universities have a department just to assist international students.  GOODLUCK!!!!!!!!!

  7. First narrow down which universities you would like to attend. You can get information about how to figure out which university is the right fit by visiting http://www.universitylanguage.com . The site also includes information about admissions tests, applications and living in the dorms.

    Good luck!
