I was on vacation in the Cayman Islands and there was a Pay Phone in my hotel where you could use a credit card or phone card and I used my credit card to call to the United States and now, a month later, am being charged over $400 for 5 calls, none of which lasted very long. I used my Visa to make these calls... Is there ANYTHING I can do?!?!

  1. International phone calls in most non-US countries are MUCH more expensive than International calls made from the US.  And pay phone calls are even more expensive yet.  Next time try a VOIP.

  2. Unfortunately, you should have read the fine print.

If the calls were made by you and the times match, I think you are out of luck.

Consider it a very expensive lesson in travel. Grand Cayman is one of the most exspensive places on the planet.

  3. The thing you can do is chalk it up to experience.  If you stayed at some chain and are a regular stayer at that chain you might be able to get some sympathy from the hotel chain to reduce a couple bucks off the bill but you would almost have to be a business person that spends half their life in that chain's rooms.  Next time think before you talk.
