I was trying out for this 'less-than-competitive' team. I was positive that I would make the team, not only becaucse my parents donated $200, but also because my skills surpass the othe. Many people thought it was unfair that I didn't make the team since I'm good, but my manager's excuse to me being an alternate was that "i was on vacation for 1 week and I would miss 3 practices." That is understandable, but other people are also vacationing, and the main reason I'm pissed is because the manager picking the teams choose his girlfriend to be on a team (baically replacing me). Many people think I should have gotten the spot instead of her, but we cannot bring this up to him or they will be kicked off the team. We have practice tommorow, and I really want to voice how upset and angry I am about the decision to not put me on a team. What should I say?

  1. Your team's manager may have reasons for his actions. It seems natural that your friends would want you on the team or at least express those opinions. I would not challenge the manager's decision, but I would ask him what his reasons were for the decision and ask if there is anything you can do to improve your chances of playing. He'll respect you for the attitude you've taken...and for being a "team player." Don't become bitter or resentful, and don't let your friends influence you to respond in a negative way. It will only hurt you...and will hurt you in the eyes of others...including the long term opinion of your friends when they have become more mature. It will also help you to develop a character trait that will make you more attractive to future coaches, teachers, managers, employers, and future boy and girlfriends. In other words, they will admire you more than if you become vindictive or resentful.

  2. Granted it was unfair, but these things happen sometimes.  Instead of whining, you play on the team and play well when you have the chance.  Then, you can prove you shouldn't be an alternate instead of just grousing about it.
