I was close to pull out of 2012 World Snooker Champion, says Judd Trump – Snooker News
Winner of the 2011 UK Championship snooker tournament, England’s Judd Trump was not feeling good when he came to the table in his first round clash against the Welshman Dominic Dale. He had food poisoning and felt that he will not be able to play the match
up to the mark but he made up his mind and performed impressively against the Welshman to win the game 10-7 at the end.
The match was quite tussling in the first two sessions on the first day and it seemed that the Bristolian potter is not on song during the game. At one point, when the youngster felt a bit fatigued, he decided to quit the game and pull out of the tournament.
However, the Ace changed his mind later in the game because the goal was prior to him and he did not want to disappoint himself and his fans.
He came back brilliantly in the third session and hit the match victory by the score line of 10-7. After the finish of his game, Trump admitted that he was about to withdraw from the event due to the food poisoning problem but then decided not to stay in
the mega event.
In his post match interview with the local media, Trump said, “It was the closest I’ve ever been to pulling out of a professional tournament. If it had been a smaller event then I would have probably pulled out, but with it being the World Championship,
I knew I had to go out there even if I finished 7-2 down after the first session.”
Mr. Haircut 100 added, “I just needed to give myself a chance to stay in the tournament. I felt ill about an hour after I’d eaten on Monday night. I woke up in the middle of the night sweating and then I was sick in the morning from about 8am to 9.30am.
It was horrible.”
The 22-year-old will next meet the former World Snooker Championship runner up, compatriot Ali Carter in the second round of the contest. It will be interesting to see how Trump builds some confidence in his game as he takes Carter in the next round.
