I was going to go to school and become an RN. But someone told me you have to have a 4.0 in all of your core classes, is that true?

  1. Most nursing schools have a wait list for applicants so, of course, higher scores will help.  However, the best thing for you to do at this point is contact schools with nursing programs that you might like to attend and direct your question to them.

    Good luck.

  2. A 4.0 isnt necessary.  Most schools require a 3.0 (or in that ballpark).

Admission is competitive so do your best.

    Good Luck

  3. Getting accepted into a RN program is extremely competitive.  There may be hundreds of applicants for 50-60 openings.  Because of this, they will start with the applicants with the highest GPAs having met all the pre-reqs and go down the scale until their spots are filled.

Depending on the applicants that you are mixed in with, you might get accepted with a lower GPA or you might get closed out.   Most colleges would be in the high 3.0s before their spots are completely filled (not really 4.0).   Ask the admission director where you are interested in applying - where do they typically find themself filled (GPA wise).

  4. i have a sister that is going and she is doing great. no that is not true you do not have to have that kind of average. but the classes are hard she did tell me that.
