And when I look at the usage in properties for both drives its saying im missing 4gigs in the external drive. But when I rest the cursor over each file in both drives its saying it should be an equal trade.

If gigs are gigs no matter the type or brand of your drive, how would I lose 4gigs?

  1. u never get full hard drive space on internal and also external.  depending on how big ur external is will depend on how much is preused.

  2. Well, the file system can take some room, plus, each disk is measured differently by Windows compared to the way the disk manufacturers measure. Actually, gigabytes are not gigabytes. The way the are measured can reduce the size. Of course, the drive manufacturers are going to use the sizing schematic which makes them appear as large as possible. I wouldn't worry about it, all seems normal to me.
