I was declined from opening a bank account...?

I am out of the country and I was trying to sign up online. I think me being in another country had a lot to do with it. Anyways, I was declined and I was wondering if being declined was going to show up on my credit report? I justed turned 18 like last month. This really sucks

/ Your credit report will reflect that the bank declined credit to you, however you have the opportunity to respond to this decline.

You will receive an official letter from the bank (that you were declined).  The letter will list the credit reporting agency (Equifax, TransUnion, etc.) and you can contact them directly for a free copy of your credit history report.

When you receive this paperwork, you can write a response which will be permanently filed with this bank's decline.

At this time, many banks are having trouble because of the mortgage crisis.  The banks are tightening their requirements for obtaining new account holders.

You may want to try a bank with a branch located in the country were you currently reside, then go to the local (in your area of the foreign country) branch and open the account there.

it used to be that anyone with the minimum amount required could open a savings account. Now, they check your credit and can deny you for any flaw they find, regardless of how much you ahve to work with. Sucks, but credit makes the world go round.

Do you even have any credit? That might factor into it. I think when I first opened a bank account I had to have my parents sign for me.

Yes this will show up on your creditt report...sorry, but it happened to me too!!

Won't show up on your credit report. Can you have a family member walk into the bank.  You could have an account ready in minutes.

they probably declined you because you might be in chexsystems.
