I was defrosting a freezer with a hammer and screwdriver, now theres a whole in it. What to do? Get a new one?

Very much an accident! Feel like a complete idiot, and my boss is going to kill me! It leaked something that smelt strangely like petrol? Oh dear!

That is the exact reason that every refrigerator/freezer owner's manual specifically states "Do not use sharp objects to remove ice from the unit.  After your boss finishes killing you he can have the tube repaired and the unit recharged for much less than the cost of a new freezer.

You punctured the freon pipes that help freeze the contents. Freon can be poisonous, so don't taste it!

1. Ya busted the Freon tube...the freezer is now a boat anchor.

2. Don't tell anyone.

3. Get someone else to blame it on.

4. Look for a new job that don't have freezers

Unplug it, report what you did and offer to replace it.  It is not repairable and needs to be removed.  A better method of quick defrost would be to put a pan or bowl of boiling water in the freezer, the steam loosens the ice.  Also, not wait so long to defrost helps as well.:)  But really, accidents happen and you just need to step up to what you did and get past it.
