  1. Yes, it will be retroactive from the time you were diagnosed. My son was a teen when diagnosed and did not apply for over a year. They determined he could only receive a fixed amount . . which he exceeded when they tried to do the retroactive thing . . so they ended up 'penalizing' him for making too much money. It was really silly. Fortunately the money didn't make much difference to his situation as he did not need to rely on it. But for a while all he got was something like ten dollars a month.

    Good luck to you.

  2. No. They decide the month you became disabled. You give that month and the next five months. Then you start getting benefits the month after the sixth month. I became disabled 10-07 and got the first check in May.

  3. Yes, it will be retroactive at least to the date of the original application.  Mine was retroactive to the time I was first disabled - when I had my second surgery to take the cancer out and I had some complications that prevent me from working - I got a check for like $10,000 for 10 months of back pay.

I'm sorry to hear your situation - try to get it paid back to your original diagnosis date.

  4. Yes, SSI Disability will usually go retroactive to the date of the original application.

  5. Yes you do. And you get a medicare card also. You should have all ready gotten your claim. If not please call them and get a move on this. You will need your money.

God bless you, your in my prayers
