  1. Does VA still send out letters requesting proof of insurance with an effective date PRIOR to the date of the letter?

    If this is the case and you have moved, you probably have the wrong address on your drivers license.

    Could be that the judge may have a little more sympathy if when you go to court, you are CORRECT in every way - proper address on your license, current insurance.  Be sure to catch a ride to court, just in case they ask you how you GOT there.

  2. A fine probably, maybe you can talk to the judge and explain that you did have insurance so had no way of knowing about the suspension.

    You didn't mention if you are a Virginia resident and driver. They have a really bad law that they plan or raising 65 million a year by adding a fine of up to $3,000, payable over three years for poor victims who live and drive in Virginia, over the normal fine. They are trying to rescind the law but probably not until July.
