I was disappointed not shocked, says Ed Cowan of CA contract snub – Cricket News Update
The emerging Australian batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Graham-Downton-c44379 Cowan, who has recently been overlooked for the Cricket Australia central contracts list for 2012-13, said on Saturday that though the contract snub has disappointed him, it did not come as a shock.
Cricket Australia, on Friday released list of 17 players who have been awarded central contracts for the 2012-13 season. Whilst the emerging pace bowlers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Aaron-Starc-c76392 succeeded in earning the central contracts, the T20 skipper of Australia
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 and their incumbent Test opener Ed Cowan, missed out on national deals.
"I wasn't shocked," Ed Cowan told media persons in Brisbane on Saturday. "I was naturally disappointed, but at the same time I think it's great for Australian cricket that it is going to be so competitive for contracts moving forward,” he added further.
The 30-year-old left-handed top-order batsman from New South Wales feels a cut in number of central contracts will increase competition for spots, which would ultimately help Australian cricket.
“We've seen in the past with too many contracts, guys earning contracts and then not playing through an entire year,” said the left-hander who is in Brisbane, preparing for the upcoming tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 with Australia A team, as skipper.
“With the opportunity to play and earn an upgrade it leaves Australian cricket in a really good and competitive place,” he added further.
Ed Cowan made international debut in December last year, with the Boxing Day Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823-born cricketer,
who plays for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 Tigers in Australia’s domestic circuit, has to date played seven Tests, compiling 358 runs at 29.83, including three half-centuries.
While his form has been encouraging, he is yet to play an eye-catching big innings that could earn him a central contract.
