I was discharged EPTS for asthma in my last week of basic training. I was told I still have military experience. I was in the National Guard and I had drills for 5 months before I went to basic. I was wondering what kind of good jobs I can get with my military experience.

  1. Fry cook.............

  2. Pay close attention to the next sentence.

    You have NO military experience.

  3. Look for anything that allows you to ask, "Do you want fries with that?"

I have seen a few vets that were employed holding signs on the entrance way to highways.

  4. What military experience?!  Pre Basic  Drilling is not military experience.

  5. That is the funniest thing i have seen all day.....you do not have any military experience. I have seen privates that go through all of basic and AIT and still don't know there butt from a hole in a ground. I would be surprised if you could lace up your boots right.Do your self a favor and pretend like you were never in the military.

  6. Your military experience really doesn't add up to much.

Military experience counts on a civilian resume based upon what you did and how long you did it.  I worked in aircraft maintenance for many years, then worked in airfield management.  I also had experience in computer networking and did a few years as a First Sergeant.  First Shirt translates will into Human Resources and the other skills translate directly into their civilian equivalents.

In your case, 5 months of drills equals about 2 weeks of full-time employment.  Nothing to write home about, I'm afraid.

  7. I'll bet you can flip the heck out of a hamburger.

If you have to ask about your military experience, you probably don't have any.

  8. Not much - you don't have any real military experience.  No deployments and no time in your MOS.

  9. Sorry to say, but none, civilians won't care about you being in the military without college. My father just retired a year ago from the Army after 25 years, and can't get a job just on that.

  10. WHAT military experience?

  11. I'm not familiar with National Guard drills.  What did they cover?

You won't be able to get a job based on what you've described, but if worded correctly you might be able to pad your resume.  For example, if you covered first aid in your drills, including that might give you a slight edge in applying for some jobs.

For a "good" job, though, you'll probably need to go back to school.

  12. Best bet probably Home Depot.  Or, like the other guy said flippin burgers.  If all you have to rely on is your mil experience, then you better go to school.

  13. go to community college finish your two years and transfer to a four year university. graduate with a degree in something useful.

otherwise make sure when i order that my fries aren't cold and please for the love of god don't fill my drink to the brim with ice, i really will hand it back to you and request a new one.
