I have read a few of these kinds of questions now and decided it's time to pose my own question...

First of all, I don't want to see one anti-military person post on here... also I don't want to hear I have no chance, because I do, I will get in. Being in the service was not only the most rewarding experience of my life, but the most fun I ever had as well... So if you have some advice, if you have been there, or if you're in a position where you can help me, please help a guy out... I don't care what branch you are...I appreciate it, we have to stick together.

Back in 2005 I was 18 years old and enlisted in the Navy. I had fought hard to get in because of a surgery I had as a kid on my foot, it never caused me pain... at any point in my life...

During boot camp I noticed a dull but pretty debilitating pain in my ankles... I blew it off, I was doing the greatest thing i'd ever done, and I knew if I complained they'd send me home... I waited until I got to my tech school and the pain was to the point that I had to act. I went to medical and asked them for some ankle supports...

After that it was a whirlwind of events, I was put on LLD (light limited duty) and eventually told by the doctor there that "I was being sent back to wherever it was I came from." For having stress fractures and shin splints.

This destroyed me.

I was discharged in a matter of two months, maybe less...

I have been trying to re-enlist since. I was completely declined by the MEPS doctor here for "footpain." I never experienced footpain in my life, let alone while in the Navy.

I went to 2 civiallian doctors and they both feel I was misdiagnosed. I had achilles tendonitus, and had they provided me with the support that I needed, I would have been fine...

The problem is this... Nobody will talk to me. It's like i'm radio-active. I'll talk to a recruiter, but they never call me back... and I have probably talked to at least 30 (minimum). I jog 2.5 miles a day, with no problems... I do over 1000 situps, 500 push ups, and work out... zero problems.

Can someone help me get back into the one thing I was meant to do? Is there anyone out there who can do this?

If you don't want to post on here, then drop me an E mail DavidYankovich@hotmail.com

  1. in response to the person above me, if he was misdiagnosed, then the navy failed him. he tried to push through it, unlike the MANY people who wash out of basic every month.

i dont know what to tell you. if you are trying to go back navy, you could be sol, because they aren't hurting for men. have you talked to any army recruiters? or maybe even marines? if you have documentation of misdiagnosis, that could help your chances.

sorry i'm not much help, but i hope the best for you.

  2. The problem is that the military believes that you have a medical condition that disqualifies you from military service.

The only way the military will look at you is if you go to civilian doctors and get statements indication that the condition is completely cured and will not recur.  And then you have to hop that the doctors at MEPS will accept what a civilian doctor says.

  3. The Fact and Truth of the Matter is...

You will never be allowed back into any branch of the Military...

No matter how or what you try it is a no go...

You are Permanently Disabled..file a claim with the VA...

For Treatment & Compensation...as your condition will get worse as you age...

Believe me I know that feeling...

I was devastated when the Marines gave me a Medical back in 1970,

My Wounds were to severe for Full Duty

  4. well face it, u have given a chance and u failed to achieve it!!

This world is caused by reasons!! there must be some part of your life you did wrong!

  5. Check out the link I have provided below..I am joining the Army again after having served 4 years and I have a RE-3 code and I am re-enlisting this month. I got out for pregnancy and my waiver is a personnel one, and I was told not hard at all. You can't just call the recruiter...they get no credit for prior service re enlistments and aren't going to spend extra time on you. You have to go in person and talk to someone there. If they keep stone walling you...go talk to the Army...I know they take everyone...but it is not as bad as people perceive it to be. I have the same amount of pride in my service as it sounds like you do. RE-3 is a waiverable code...but I don't know how the identifier is going to affect your chances...good luck to you

  6. David with that code which means INELIGIBLE TO REENLIST WITHOUT A COMNAVCRUITCOM WAIVER. Condition (not physical disability) interfering with performance of duty. vand what u have to do is contact your congress man on this matter or go to your local va office and speak to them.

if u have any other question please feel free to contact me at myke_cyndy@yahoo.com.

i am a diasble navy vet and i can help you if u need it

  7. I'm with Larry W - don't give up.

  8. you probly wont get back in but i bet you could try for the marines or airforce or coast guard(the marines work for the navy)

  9. I feel for you, but until you can manage to get re-evaluated by the Navy and proved that you were somehow misdiagnosed you don't have anything going for you.  The two civilian doctors do help with that to a certain degree, you got to get the Navy BURPERS to review your separation.  The Navy, like any other branch of the service, doesn't like having to admit it was wrong about anything.

Get some of your state representatives, senators and congressmen on your side twisting the Navy's junk, at some point they will break down if enough political pressure gets applied.  Best of luck to you...

  10. your chances of getting back in are are extremely slim..closer to zero than not.  you had a past issue that was waivered, and then it flared up while you were training.  they will NOT allow you back in because they will NOT take on the responsibility for your issue.

Navy will not touch you.  Army or National guard might consider it.

  11. First some info... then your answer...

These codes determine whether or not one may reenlist or enlist in a military service at a later time.

RE Code of 1 may reenlist in their previous service or another service with no problem.

RE Code of "2" may usually reenlist in their service or another service with various restrictions, or if the circumstances which resulted in the code no longer apply.

RE Code of "3" can normally reenlist in their service or another Service, but will probably require a waiver to be processed.

RE Code of "4" are normally not eligible to reenlist in their service, nor join another service.

RE-3G- Condition (not physical disability) interfering with performance of duty.

    NOW THE ANSWER....

If the recruiters won't talk to you and you are set on going Navy... then you have to prove that your RE-3G was an incorrect classification...   and get it changed to something you CAN re-enlist with...  and the only way to get it changed is to petition to the Board for Correction of Navy Records (BCNR).   You can find the info for applying to them at:

    http://www.hq.navy.mil/bcnr/bcnr.htm

  12. Like everyone here said see your own doctor and fight it. That is if it is what you really want.

You may have to call a recuriting supervisor. In the Navy everyone has a boss. Go up the chain of command.

  13. hey man, i know how you feel first of all. i hate these do gooders who get on here and act like there **** don't stink because they know how to *********, and have never been in the trouble in the military. half of them don't know what the h**l there talking about either. they will tell you that you can't get in any branch with a re-4. there wrong. they will tell you, you can't get a discharge upgraded. that is dead wrong. i am proof of all this. i had a bad conduct discharge up graded to a general and my re code waived, by the national guard. it took about 6 months. so anything is possible. as far as an injurie, that one is hard. honestly, i would try not telling them. if it doesn't matter to you, try the guard. you might have a better chance. i hope this is helpfull.

  14. David, you have to take the alternative route...  You need to get your own physical screening done before hand and show proof that you were misdiagnosed.  Also, you will need to write your Congressman AFTER and ONLY AFTER you have been completely screened and had at least TWO medical doctors, specialists would be even better, who will vouch that you were misdiagnosed, accompanied by comprehensive write-ups.  Honestly, I spent twelve years in and am an LAPD officer now, so am not sure if the effort that this will require would be worth it.  However, if you wish to get in, then the best chance you have is to take the alternative route.
