so i go to court and they are requiring me to have auto insurance for a year. I have no car, and I rarely drive my friends car, or any other car( like 2-3 in a year, just 2-3 miles each time). How can I buy auto insurance without having a car

  1. depending on your states, you can get a bond or a non-owners policy.  basicly you're purchasing a liability policy but the rate is cheaper because you don't own a vehicle.

but you'll have to keep the policy for a complete year or they'll suspend your license again.

*very few companies offers bond and/or non-owners. you'll have to shop around.  i dont know what state you're in but try the general.

  2. I have tried it myself, here is some good informations.http://car-insurance.online-tips.info/ca...

  3. They have insurance that covers you driving ANY car. They don't like to sell it and I hear it's quite expensive.  It doesn't seem fair but the judge did the ruling and that's that.

  4. Sounds like to me you need to go back to court.

  5. For auto insurance the obvious way to get a great rate is do a policy comparison on car policies. Make sure that you compare similar policies with the same deductibles, car model, location, etc so that all things are an accurate comparison.

What I always recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.lowratetoday.com since they have discount insurers and can give many quotes on car insurance polices.

  6. I don't think you have to have insurance, per say.  You have to have a form w/ an insurance company that basically makes them notify the state if you ever miss a payment when you do have insurance.

In Indiana, the form is called an SR-22 or something like that.  Call your local BMV or call an insurance company.  They can tell you about it.

And you're right, insurance companies insure vehicles, not people, so if you have no car, you can't purchase an automobile policy.
