  1. I've seen situations on I-95 where a state trooper will pull out in front of traffic with his lights on and slow down, forcing three or more lanes of traffic to reduce their speed. It looks like a yellow flag situation with a pace car in racing. This is done when there's some form of construction lane changes in progress, and they try to get a break in traffic flow This creates a huge gap in traffic allowing workers time to shift cones, signs, etc.

  2. traffic pacing is drivivg at the same speed as everyone else,it reduces rear end wrecks and all around stupid accidents

  3. My out of the blue guess is that there were highway maintenance vehicles along that stretch whose job it was to block traffic and keep it at a certain slower speed due to road work or such. Essentially acting like a pace car. Did the traffic around you seem to slow down at that point?

Now you have me curious. If you find out for sure, you've got to post the meaning when you choose a Best Answer for this question.

  4. I'm not too sure but I think it means they are trying to keep the traffic going a 'steady' speed. I can expect they were doing roadwork or something similar. It may not be correct but i'm fairly certain.
