I was experimenting on electricity..why is it that if i put the electrodes on the distilled water?

ammoniumhydroside solution,vinegar,sugar in water, ethyl alcohol,glycerine,tap water, crystals of sugar, aluminum and copper why is that nothing happens compare to when i put it in the distilled water+salt it evaporated a bit on the sodium hydroxide the light fainted and on the crystals of salt the light fainted also...please please help
