I was falsely accused of stealing 140.00 from the office managers office. The facts are: She was on vacation and put me in charge of the petty cash (140.00) I left the money in her office on Tuesday afternoon leaving it at work. The next day I went to check on the money and it was gone. I reported this to the supervisor and told them everything I know. When the office manager came back someone returned the money. This was after a memo was sent out about the incident. I was accused of all of this and they fired me. Now I can't even get Unemployment benefits. I feel they did not investigate fully and are telling unemployment and others that I stole from their business. I am afraid this will be told to future employers. I want to take a lie detector test to prove I did not have ANYTHING to do with this. What do I do? I feel like they are kicking me while I am down. They have no evidence that I did this and what's worse is that I reported this. Now I feel like I wish I could have kept my mouth shut. THIS IS NOT FAIR!!!

  1. Do you think that your ex-employer will tell a potential employer something that could be used by you to sue them with?  That is why you should not worry because they will not take the chance.  They will just tell you from when to when you worked.

  2. Actually, I think it's illegal for them to fire you.If they are telling unemployment that you stole from them it's slander which is libelous and you can bring charges against this employer.

  3. contact the eeoc. and file a report on them http://www.eeoc.gov/

  4. welcome to the working world. don't sweat it. it is unlikely your ex-employer would accuse you of a crime unless they were willing to go to court over it. they will probably give you a good ref and or the very least verify your employment without saying anything bad.

try and put it behind you and just find another job.
