I was forced to resign, and I broke down in tears?

I was at my end of the probational period and they decided not to keep me on board. I'm a paraeducator and I just broke down in tears because I was so upset and felt really rejected by this. I put up with alot of c**p in the classroom I was in, and it was all for nothing.

I feel like they never gave me a chance to shine, and that I was not even given feedback prior to this forced resignation. It was either resign or have it on my file and now I cant even get unemploment!

I'm so upset. Am I right to feel this way or am I taking it too personal?

  1. Sounds to me like God has something better in mind for you.  This just did not sound like a "dream job" to me-so think of what you learned and what you really want in a job and go for it.  It's an opportunity to grow and improve yourself. so don't ""beat yourself up" over this.  You will find something better, and wonder why you stayed at a job being mistreated as long as you did.

Take care of yourself, and start looking  at the top now ok?

Good luck, things will get better really soon!

  2. Why were you on probation?  Did you do something bad to the retarded kids?  Shame on you!

Edit:  You had f***s thrown on you?  I would say to h**l with them then.  Even working in fast-food or at Tescos would be better than that type of Hellish existance!

  3. You say you weren't given a chance to shine...well here's the thing.  You have to shine all on your own and if they won't give you feedback, you're are supposed to take the initiative and ask for it.

It's true, sometimes you can't please people, and if you look closely at your question you can probably tell this resignation was probably for the best, but instead of taking a defensive attitude, take it as a self-teaching moment to evaluate yourself and make sure you were doing the best job you could do: asking for help when you needed it, stepping up without being asked, and really showing your employers you had the skill to really do a superb job.

If you really want to be a para, and it sounds like you do, find another position, even if it is part time, temporary or non paying and really get in there and take the job seriously.  Even at the interview you should be asking the employer what they are looking for and what they think makes a good employee.  Give them what they want and give them a chance to see that you can meet their standards, and I know you will succeed.

Also, take into account, that schools are always looking for teachers and maybe the reason they didn't give you feedback was because it was during your probation period and they found someone else or decided to go in a different direction with your post.  Sometimes they want a clean break. It is harsh and cruel but it is tough in teaching now and everyone is held to the highest accountability possible. But just as they are always looking, you should be, too.

    Good luck!
