  1. No because you already have SKY+ the cables and satellite is ready for HD. U have to have a HD subscription to view the HD channels. I'm sure you can do it you self. When i had my HD installed the technician first had to update the firmware of the HD box which took about 10min of his time, i think you might be better of getting them to do it for you then if something goes wrong with the box you at least have a leg to stand on. And it's not that expensive to get them out to come do it for you

  2. I would seriously seriously suggest thinking about going with Virgin Media mate. With a V+ box you can record 2 channels while watching a third and it's a lot cheaper. Great value if you're not bothered about getting Sky Sports or Sky Movies. Don't forget you've got lots of film channels including TCM and Film 4 and you can watch the footie down the pub where there's more atmosphere. Virgin 1 is practically the same as Sky 1 and you have access to BBC iPlayer on your telly, so have a think about it.

  3. sky hd is a direct replacement for a sky+, only difference in wiring is you disconnect the scart and connect a hdmi lead instead. there is a extra £10 subscription charge otherwise you can only watch bbc hd and channel 4  hd. also when you swap the card over you need to ring sky to get it matched otherwise the recording and live pause wont work from the subscription channels(works ok on freeview channels).

sky gives you cheap deals if you get the box as part of multiroom (extra £10)but then you are stuck for 12 months paying an extra £20 (£10 multirom+£10HD) and they will still charge upto £60 installation even if it ony needs the box swaped over.

you dont need to worry about the software update, the box does it by itself, if you want is simple to do:

unplug the box from the mains

keep the backup button pressed (top of hd box)

keeping the backup button pressed plug the box into the mains and keep backup pressed for around 15 - 20 seconds utill the red green orange status leds on the front of the box light up.the screen will say "updating system software", but with some hd tvs it might show "display not supported" if connecting by hdmi (ok with scart)
