  1. CPG is perfectly correct, but there is a little more to it. As he says, you will have to apply for a B2 visa, or a B1/B2 if you want to do any business while you are there. When you apply for your visa, you will have to answer the question, 'Have you ever.....about your overstay. however, getting that visa may give you an advantage, depending on when your passport expires, because those visas are normally valid for up to ten years as long as your passport is valid, meaning that once you get it, you will not have to apply for another visa until you have new passport.

Embassies are busy at this time and most us ones have big backlogs too, so it is time for you to be getting on with your arrangements.

    Good Luck!

  2. Test out the Mexican boarder security.

  3. Since you overstayed for more than 6 months in 1989, you would have received a 3 year ban from entering the United States. This would have been lifted in 1992 and the fact that you had no problems entering in 1998 is testament to this.

There are always problems when it comes to be admitted lawfully into the United States, regardless of past history and this is true for everyone.

I don't foresee any problems for denial of entry due to your overstay 19 years ago. You will however require a B2 visa for any subsequent visit to the U.S.
