I was in a car accident in cali. and will probably be disabled for some time. Can my employer fire me?

I still have many surgery's I have to have done and am really worried about my health insurance being cancelled. That's my real worry. I can always look for work after I'm better but it will be a long and costly road til then.

  1. Unless the wreck was work-related,your employer is under no obligation to carry your insurance,but you may continue by paying the full premiums under COBRA legislation...


  2. If you were injured in an automobile accident and your treatment is a direct result of that accident, your auto insurance should cover it, not your health insurance at work.  

    Yes indeed they can fire you if they want to, but again if your time off work is a direct result of the accident, it should be covered by insurance.

    This is something you need to discuss with your agent as to your rights and obligations.
