it was in an accident in a parking lot. i backed up a little bit to keep my front end from sticking out to far and the guy behind me went forward and my hitch got stuck under is bumper

we pulled apart and there is no visible damage but he says the bumper buckled but i saw nothing

its going to cost me like 500 dollars to replace a bumper that has no visible damage to it. is that legal?

and if it is will my rates go up if its less than the deductable

  1. I think that the best thing to do in this situation is to have him report the accident to his insurance company.

Your insurance company will be responsible for paying his damages... but you will not have to pay anything out of your pocket. Plus if the insurance company is going to pay for him to have his damages fixed... they will make sure to have an accurate estimate of the damages.

Also... depending on who you're insured with... if your company doesn't pay over a certain amount it won't count against your claim history. The company I work for... if we don't pay out over $750 then you won't lose your accident free discounts and your rates won't increase.
