  1. Was your director an idiot? There is almost no kissing in Shakespeare because all the girls roles were played by boys. When there was a kiss, it was highly stylized, that is to say it was unrealistic, and symbolic rather than real. Finally there is a fake kiss called a stage kiss that should be employed by directors for their very young teen actors. It is a shame that so many hs directors do not know what they are doing.

  2. When in a scene onstage that makes YOU feel uncomfortable, remember...You are now your character.

You may not have any feelings toward the person you're kissing, but you character feels something toward their character.

That's the fun of being an actor... remembering that It's not you, it's your character

  3. nope

  4. In acting as in most occupations we somethimes have to do things that we would rather not do.

You always have a choice:  do it the best way you know how or quit the job.

I'm glad to hear you learned how to fake it - you are beginning to understand the craft.

  5. The reason that the stage for years was thought to be a disreputable occupation was that acting required just the kind of accommodation you disliked. A Victorian father was appalled when his daughter went on the stage because he saw it as the first step toward prostitution. The fact that the play you acted in was by Shakespeare and so a work of high cultural merit makes the experience more insidious.

Today we find those Victorian attitudes ridiculous. Perhaps rightly so. Is the incidence of divorce and marital troubles higher among actors and actresses than in the population at large? I don't know. How many prostitutes have slipped into their unfortunate status because they aspired to the stage? Tell us, Ashley Dupre.
