I know this is a shallow question, but I just spent three weeks (in an American state) eating really horrible food, and I just wanted to know if the food in the U.K. is as bad and bland as I have heard people say. I don't want to spend 3 mos. starving in a different country.

  1. The food is fine, despite all of the rumors. Hah. I traveled around the UK for a month and everywhere I went to eat had good food.

  2. Everything is available to eat... Make your own food and it wont be horrible.

  3. You won't starve.  They have McDonald's and BK and subway and Pizza Hut.  But certain food in England seems disgusting.  Like their blood pudding or kidney pies and stuff.  Their food tends to be very heavy and hard on the stomache.  Some of their food is good like the fish and chips and cheese and onion pies and their junk food is good too !  Overall just stay away from traditional English food and you should be fine.

  4. Don't worry about the food at all, especially if it's the only thing holding you back from studying abroad.  I spent three months studying in Scotland - I'm Canadian - and I ate very well.  If you're feeding yourself, there's great food in the grocers and at farmers' markets.  I personally love Tesco brand food (sold at Tesco, of course!!!) because it's cheap and really appetizing.  If you've got loads of money, you can shop at Marks and Spencers (M&S) and get more gourmet-style food.

Eating out is good too.  As long as you're in a city, you'll be able to find a lot of high-quality restaurants - and a LOT of international food restaurants - as well as the good old standbys you're probably used to. Depending, again, on your budget, you'll be able to get good cheap food or amazing expensive food.  And go ahead and try the traditional British food, especially if it's cold, windy, and damp outside - it'll warm your tummy and your heart, and keep you satisfied until your next meal!
