Ask some of their friends what they are buying. It is hard to give suggestions as we know nothing of these people. I don't think an expensive gift is in order. A nice bottle of wine perhaps.

Now, to answer the question, findgift.com says that the traditional 30th anniversary gift is pearl, and the modern one is diamond.  It seems to me that would apply more to something the husband should give and not to anything that friends should bring (unless you have mega-rich friends - ha ha).

What you should give depends on how close you are to the people and how much you want to spend.  You could get them a gift certificate for a nice restaurant so they can continue to celebrate on another day and just be alone together.  Otherwise, some nice wine or champagne could be a good choice.  Or you could put together a little photo album with some of the best photos you have of them as a couple (like at various parties and things you've been to with them over the years).
