2. VIN Number 3. the registration # of the car?

  1. There are a few things you can do on your own to find the correct address for the at fault vehicle owner. First you should try www.whitepages.com. Search their prior address and it may provide you with a phone number. Second you can search the clerk of courts website for the county you live in. Due to the freedom of information act you can search the locate clerks site for information such as citations, home deeds etc. You can usually search by name and you be able to find their new address. Additionally, you or your insurance company can send a copy of the full police report to you state department of motor vehicles department. Make sure you indicate in the letter the name and drivers license of the person whose insurance appears to no longer be valid. The state is required to keep records on who you insure your vehicle with and they can let you know if that person has switched to another carrier. Additionally, when most states are notified of a lack of insurance they can take steps to have that persons license suspended. Additionally, you carrier should have access to databases of information that will help them to locate the at fault party.
