I was involved in an accident with an unisured motorist.?

I was able to collect my deductible from the guy before i filed the claim. Do i have to give that to my insurance or i can use that money to paid for my deductible?

  1. Happened to me last year.  Didn't get a thing out of him and had to pay for everything myself.  I was SCREWED over.  I did everything right, he did everything wrong and I ended up losing money and having my rates increase 300%.


  2. You should have used your own insurance, paid your collision deductible (if any) to them, they go after the other guy.  If they collect, they return your deductible to you.  You should tell your insurance company that you already accepted $650.00 from the other guy but since you tried to do this on your own, your insurance company may not help at this point.    My pet peeve is that many forget that they bought insurance and can and should use that insurance when an accident occurs.  ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, notify (and use) your own insurance..... ALWAYS !
