They were very tall trees and had light yellow colored flowers that filled the air with a jasmine like fragrance. Does anyone know what they are called? I would love to get one to plant at home. Thanks!

  2. bella mimosa

  3. It might have been a goldenchain tree. There's a photo of one at: http://www.digitalgallery.ca/mybest/0305...

    or maybe a mimosa: http://it.inmagine.com/icn121/icn121042-...

  4. They might have been an acacia, sometimes called a mimosa tree, which blooms yellow and is said to smell wonderful, though I haven't smelled one myself.

  5. It couldn't have been a mimosa tree. They generally bloom in early March -- they are traditionally given as a gift on International Women's Day which is March 8 -- and this year due to our mild winter this year they even bloomed earlier than that. Also, their scent is not so strong (or as sweet as jasmine) to be that noticeable.

Much more likely, you were smelling the linden trees in bloom. Here's a link that rhapsodizes about the linden tree and its blossoms.

It's also possible you were smelling jasmine. Sweet-smelling gelsomina bushes are very popular in Florence and bloom at the same time, more or less, as the linden tree. However, they are not trees.
