I was just thinking about kids lately because my mom is pregnant with her 2nd kid.

And how she is raising me and comparing to how I would raise my child. Like allowing them privledges and such as a pre teen and teen.

I decided on.

- When they start middle school the dont need a babysitter

- During 7th grade at Christmas they're allowed an ipod

- Starting high school they get their 1st cell phone

- 10th grade they are allowed cable in their room

- age 16 they can have a boyfriend

- 11th grade the get a lap top with internet access

- for graduation they recieve their own car and $500 hundred dollars to put into their savings account

i dont want any kids anytime soon but was just thinking about this. i think this is completely reasonable. What do you think???

  2. Sounds reasonable to me, assuming you have the money for the iPod, laptop, and new car ;)

But seriously, however you raise your future kids is up to you, as long as they are loved and well taken care of!

  3. I think thats a good

  4. Time's change rather quick, by the time you have kids, probably everyone will have a cell phone, internet, i-pods ... generally thing's that we didn't have when we were little.  I'd say be flexible, because time's will change even if your plans stay the same.

  5. PROBABLY BY THE TIME U HAVE KIDS, 5 YR OLDS WILL HAVE I PODS, HAHA BUT SERIOUSLY THAT SEVENTH GRADE I POD IS KRAP AND 1ST CELL PHONE SHOULD BE 7TH GRADE and sorry for the caps and 500$ my pbrother got 5 thousand for his graduation! ur a lameo parent no offence!

  6. i agree w/ some of this but i think they should be able to get an ipod in 6th grade, 8th grade for the cellphone, 9th grade for the cable and tv, and 10th grade for the laptop(and till then make them use a family computer so u can see wut their doing)

  7. Its really hard to say, since times change so much, by the time you have kids there may be more to offer for example, they already make cell phones for little kids that have a button you program to just call home and such, sounds ridiculous but I would totally buy that for my kid(when i have one) even at a very young age, my 4 year old nephew memorized his mothers phone number in a day just because he wanted to.

But its good that your thinking about it now, its good to have morals and rules and to stick to them.

one of the biggest you will come across is drinking, our parents used to give us alcohol and say just that and no more, we always obeyed becuase our friends were sneaking behind our backs. and smoking we asked for one when we were little,  had a drag each, hated it of course and none of us smoke.

a great way to learn lol it works

  8. first two seems ok, though it wouldn't be to bad to get a phone in 8th grade but thats not much difference. Now, 10th grade having cable in their room? thats a little extreme. I think 7th grade is best. the most unreasonable one thoguh is getting a car. Me personally, im sixteen and im getting a car in about a month.

I have been saving all summer, working 4 days a week for it while my mom is putting a $1500 down payent.

The one thing i kid really needs before going into 11th grade is a car. Without a car, its pretty hard for a kid to have a good social life outside of school if the kid doesn't have a car to get around and their parents are working to much or don't want to take their kid somewhere.

If i was you, i would do what my moms doing. Putting a down payment on the car and making me pay the payments. Right now i'm saving money for payments for during the school year because kids can't work as much then.

And what money i do get working after school, its all for gas and spending money.

anyways, i don't have a lap top but i'm getting one for my next birthday so that seems reasonable as long as you have a family computer.

  9. yea it seems reasonable

  10. I think that you have alot to learn. You can't just set this forward, it completely depends on whether you can provide this and wether the child deserves this. Whether the child is trustworthy. Also, there are so many issues with television and children being bullied on the internet, you would want to protect your children. Besides, those are lofty ideas, and don't you want your child to learn to make their own way, they can buy their own car, their own ipod, learn some responsibility and get a job. Maybe comprimise, they buy themselves half, you pay for half. Also, they have to show they can abide by guidelines, so many factors play into this, you can;t just set out a list. You'll see.

  11. I think everything will be different by then.

I mean, if I'd made up rules when my mum was expecting her second kid, they wouldn't have mave mentioned any of ipods, cellphones, cable, laptops or the internet. None of it existed. I think my kids now would be having gentle hysterics if I suggested a set of rules based on record players (vinyl), Walkman use, and owning a ZX81.

I also think you have to be flexible. I mean, you're deciding right now that they have to be in high school to get a cellphone. So if, a year before that, they take up a sport which means you may need to come fetch them at different times, they can't have one? And you're going to decide that right now?

What if you don't have the money for a car and $500 spare when they graduate?

What if you have a totally irresponsible child who attempts to set the curtains on fire every time he's left alone, does he still not need a babysitter just because he's starting middle school?

Arbitrary rules are nearly always wrong.

  12. it's either going to be really c**p or really great

  13. lol sounds really fair

  14. sounds pretty reasonable except maybe for the 7th grade ipod. i'd wait a while on that. if this is the way your mother has raised you, id say she's done her part pretty well. you seem to have a pretty good head on your shoulders.

11 grade laptop Wow your kids are lucky yall must be rich your spending lot a of money
