I was last in Romania in 1990, and it was awful (lots of securitate, limited food). Is it any better now?

I love the people and seeing Europe as it was 100 years ago, but the food selection was poor and it seemed like there were a lot of thugs hanging around. Has it changed much? I arrived in Bucuresti about a month after Ceaucescu was overthrown, so maybe it's better now.

Much better now. Still at the lower end of standard.

I haven't been there myself since 2001.

Drove from Hungary to Translvania.No food to buy on the road trip, everywhere we looked it was only foods to take home and cook.

Finally found a road side resturant about 6 hours in.

Didn't stop, thought we could find something better up the road but no luck. Didn't eat all day until we found our room where we had goats milk and some bread for dinner.

If I ever go there again, I will be sure to pack some canned goods and bring some bread.

No food shortage, not  much of security, still looking like 100 years ago, but the number of thugs did double.

Yes, Romania did change a lot since then. Nice places to visit.
