  1. Peter Hurd was a well known western (American) painter.  If you have an original, it would be worth something.  But you may have only a reproduction of one of his paintings, which would be worth very little.  Egg tempera is a type of paint, so it is probably not a watercolor, but a painting (or a reproduction of a painting) done with egg tempera.

From the way you're describing the way it's mounted, makes me think it's more likely to be a reproduction, but can't be sure.  If it's a painting originally done on paper, it could be hard to tell from a photo whether it's a reproduction or not, especially if it's a well done reproduction.  You might have to show it to someone just to find out that much.

If you have a local art museum, someone there may be willing to look at it and simply tell you whether you have a print or an original.  If they feel it's an original, they most likely have names of trustworthy art appraisers who could appraise it for you.  Not inexpensive, however.

    Hope this helps.

  2. it is not not a watercolor, it is egg tempera, a type of paint which is easily recognizable by texture.
