I was looking at a web site and it says that an ounce of gold it worth about 946 dollars an ounce.?

Is this about right and if so how would you compare an ounce of gold to a regular houehold product. Im asking because I have some gold that I thought about selling and I dont have a scale and was just wondering about how much money do I have sitting here. For example and I know this is not right but one apple = 1 ounce or somehting like that.
