I was not a good player of spin to start with, says VVS Laxman – Cricket News Update
India’s former cricketer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772, has revealed that he was not adept at playing spin bowling at the start of his career and expressed that he overcame this deficiency by working extremely hard in the nets.
The 38-year-old former cricketer was speaking to ESPNcricinfo regarding the on-going series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 and company are already leading
the four-match series 1-0, with the second match being played at Hyderabad.
Laxman, who represented his country between 1996 and 2012, is considered to be one of the finest players of spin bowling in the modern era, which is the reason why he enjoyed a lot of success against some world-class spinners like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Keith-Warne-c89672 and Muttiah
Muralitharan.
However, the right-handed batsman, who still plays first-class cricket, expressed that he used to struggle against spin bowling in his early years and his preference was to face the fast bowlers all the time.
“I never got to play quality spin bowling when I was growing up,” said the former batsman. “As a kid I always enjoyed playing fast bowling. I neglected playing spinners. At the end of the practice session I got extra throw-downs, so I could play quicker
bowling.”
Laxman said that after some failures in the beginning of his first-class career, he started to practice more and more about playing the spinners, which helped improve his game.
The cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 added, “I always felt that the hard work you put in the nets will reap results. Within a span of six months to one year I became an excellent player of spin. In domestic cricket we used to get tough wickets, like the one in Chennai
for the Test (against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746), and my confidence grew."
The stylish right-handed batsman represented India in 134 Tests and 86 One Day Internationals, scoring more than 11 thousand runs at the highest stage of the game, with the help of 23 centuries. Ironically, Laxman started his international career as an opener
but developed into a quality middle-order batsman later on.
