Question:

I was offered a job, i accepted and they explained that they would get it signed off and send me out the....?

paperwork and then the following week, they advise me that they are retracting it as they job can now be done internally.... is this allowed.... this leaves me in a disappointed state of mind... i don't know what to do.... can i contest this,,, this job was the biggest oppotunity of my career so far? i am in england by the way and the organisation is huge... it's the 2012 olymics committee

  1. You can try, but I seriously doubt it. An employer can withdraw an offer at any time, just as you can elect to retract your acceptance, or quit at any time. There is an exception, when you sign a performance contract. A contractor signs to perform a certain task over a fixed period of time for a certain amount of compensation. Once both parties have signed, then the terms in the contract apply as to how the contract can be terminated before the end of the agreed upon term.
