I was on wikihow, looking for tips on packing and preparing to go on a plane ride, when I stumbled upon something which caught my eye.

In the tips area of an article, it said not to wear hairspray. Now, I'm a person who styles their hair on a daily routine, and I was going to wear hairspray on the day of the trip to keep my hair in place as usual, but now, I'm not so sure. Is hairspray bad for the plane in some way, or was it just some false info?

If it is somewhat bad for the plane, is there a substitute? Is it the same way for mousse and hair gel?

Try to be as thorough as possible, best answer gets ten points, keep that in mind.

  1. You're not allowed to bring any aresol cans through security, which includes hairspray, I'm assuming that's what they meant. I just got back from flying over seas and never once did I hear it was bad to wear hairspray. I even went through customs mulitple times in different countries, and they do have some bizarre rules (no peanut butter, no liquids bigger than 3 oz, all in 1 quart sized ziplock bag, definitely no full water bottles, etc) but I never say anything about hairspray. I wouldn't worry about it anyways because the only way they'll know if you're wearing hairspray is if they feel or smell your hair... which they don't do. Have a great trip!

  2. The problem with wearing hairspray on an aircraft is that your head is resting against the back of the seat, and your hair and hairspray may fuse with the seat back. This will make your hairstyle flat in the back, which will look very strange when you stand up.

Leave off the hair spray, and let your hair's natural resiliency do its job. You will look fine.

    Regards,

    Dan

  3. I don't see why it said that.  I have a few cousins who visit Japan, and 2 are girls, and they wear hairspray, and obviously they fly, so I think you'll be ok if you wear hairspray. =>

  4. Dan is absolutely right - if you wear hairspray during your flight, you'll have a flat 'do by the time you get to your destination.

I recommend bringing some travel-sized hairspray (look in the "travel" sections of WalMart, Target, Walgreens, etc., near the rest of the toiletries) and using it to freshen up your hair *after* the flight, instead of trying to maintain a hairdo during your flight. It's much easier to start fresh in the airport bathroom after you land than to try and repair the havoc that the plane seats have wreaked on your hair.

    Have a great flight.
